How can mobile apps change your life?

Picture

Your cell phone or media device is a very important tool to use in everyday life.  You have APPS for music, checking prices of things in stores play games, and just about anything you can think of in today's world.
You can tap a message to a friend, or use your GPS when you are lost. Texting, email and social networking are today's instant communication tools.

Cellphones in the classroom

Activity

Working in groups of 3 or 4, make a presentation using the following topics to persuade your School's Board of Education to allow Cell Phone use in the classroom. Use Google's presentation program and have each participant do 4 slides in the project.
  • List 5 things you can do on a cell phone that does not involve "calling" someone?
  • PRO/CON paper, research the cell phone and it's implications on society today.
  • Are they handy tools that could be used in the classroom, or disturbances that would take over the school environment?
Some other activities you can work on with using Cell Phones in the today's world.
  • Research 3 different phones, check the plan prices and what adding data to any plan would be. A phone with a data plan has many opportunities for being "on-line". Also, check on pricing of other media devices (iPad, Google PAD, Blackberry's PAD) that can get either wi-fi, or utilize data plans to become "connected".
  • Research and report out on "apps" that can make you a productive person. Keep the app paired with the proper device for that app. Give an explanation of the APP and what it does and how it can make you a more productive person. Present your findings to justify using cellphones for education in the classroom.

Some helpful guidelines

There are tons of ways that you can use your phone as a tool for learning and it is simple as downloading an app and learning how to use it.  Once  again... there is a responsibility that
goes along with using mobile  devices.  They can be used in good ways and they can be used in bad  ways.  Make the choice to use it appropriately. Go through the following web links.  What do you feel would be good guidelines for all people to follow when using a cell phone or media device?

In this activity you will discover 'tons' of ways your cell phone can be used for learning. This includes the guidelines listed above. Do you know you can get Google mobile services on your phone? How about novels? What about QR codes, places to post your videos, and create podcasts.
