QM5. Microsoft Word Tables
You have learned how to insert an image and a hyperlink and to share a document with others, and to collaborate on one. In this Quest you will add a page break, insert a table, fill in the Rhyme Scheme, write your own poem, and insert a comment on a classmate's document. Keep up the good work!
Step-by-step Quest directions (Word doc)
Columns: Columns run vertically (up and down) in a spreadsheet or table
Row: Rows run horizontally (left to right) in a spreadsheet or table
Cell: Each rectangular box in a spreadsheet and table is referred to as a cell. In a spreadsheet each cell has a specific name identifying it's location by row number and column ID name.
2. Open your poem document and click on editing mode.
3. Put your cursor at the end of your name (at the bottom of the document).
4. Go to the Insert Menu and select Page Break. You should see a faded line with Page Break appear above your cursor.
5. Go to the Home menu and click on the Center Alignment so your cursor is in the middle of the page after the Page Break.
6. Type a title, "Rhyme Scheme for Nothing Gold Can Stay". Select and format the poem title with italics.
7. Space down a few lines below the title and uncheck italics if it is selected.
Part 2: Steps 8-13 Inserting a Table
8. On the INSERT menu.
Select Table, and move the mouse over and down the box to create a 3x8 table. Click on the square when you see 3x8 appear at the top to insert the table.
9. Add headers in the first row of the table.
Click in the top cell, first column and first row, and type "Line Number," use the tab key to move to the next cell, in the middle column type "Rhyming word," (tab over) and in the last column type "Rhyme Scheme (A, B, C...)
10. In the first column in Row 2, type the line number 1.
Use your arrow key or mouse to click in the cells below that and enter the rest of the line numbers from 1-7 in the different rows.
How many lines are in the poem? Use your tab key, and tab over until a new line appears! This is how you can add more rows to a table. Type the line number 8 into the row.
11. In Row 2, the second column, type the last word from the first line of the poem. You can scroll up to the poem to find it.
Continue to do that for the rest of the lines until column two is complete.
12. Now go back up to the poem and use the highlight tool to highlight the word at the end of each line of the poem. Use the same highlight color for each rhyming set of words, and a different color for each different rhyming set of words.
13. In the last column of the table enter the Rhyme Scheme following the directions from the videos.
Since you already highlighted the last word in each line of your poem to match up rhyming words, this should be easier now.
Part 3: Steps 14-17 Create and Collaborate

Space down two lines below the poem.
Write your own 4 line poem using the AABB Rhyme Scheme.
How to get started? Pick two pair of rhyming words. Example: pat, cat, house, mouse. Then make short sentences that end in the words. Example:
I once had a cat,
His name was Pat,
He lived in my house,
But was afraid of a mouse.
Note: Have fun with it, you can make it funny, scary, and even longer. Think the fun Dr. Seuss must have had!
15. Give your poem a title and share it with a classmate in editing mode.
16. You and your classmate should open the poem document in editing mode, scroll down to read the new poem, and go to the Insert menu and choose Comment. Leave a polite and encouraging comment that includes your own name.
17. Be sure this is shared with your teacher so you and your classmate get credit.
Completing this Quest
This Quest is done when you have added a page break, formatted and inserted a table, completed the Rhyme Scheme assignment, composed your own AABB poem, shared it with a classmate, added a comment to theirs, and shared it with your teacher.
