5. Digital Footprint

Introduction

You created your first professional web presence during your last Quest. Blogging is another popular way to boost your digital footprint.  

In this Quest you will investigate what a blog is, then create your own. There are many different blog types or sites. Check with your teacher on which one to use.

Key Vocabulary:

Blog: It is a personal website or web page on which an individual records opinions, links to other sites, etc. on a regular basis.

Elements: what is displayed on a webpage such as images, headings, text


Steps:
 

Step 1: Start with some research by visiting the following resources about blogs: 

A. Common Craft Video (also above)

B.  Google student blog example

C. Techie Kids blog from Michigan  singing the Genre Song

D. Guide for Student Bloggers - legal rights 

Step 2: Now that you have an idea, check out some student blogs.

A. Explore 2-3 student blogs in the Student section of the Community within Edublogs.

Step 3: Now you should understand what a blog is, create your own. Your options include:  EduBlogs, Blogger, and WordPress

  1. Sign up for a blog account at Edublogs (or alternate).
     
  2. Visit the tutorials for the blog site such as the "Getting Started with Edublogs " area.
     
  3. Add elements to your blog, such as images, audio, your favorites (bookmarks), some web links to great places, etc.

Completing this Quest

When you discovered what a blog is and have created your own blog, share the link with your teacher as well as link to it in your File Space.
