Introduction

In this Quest, you will learn how students are using social networks and other online sites to share personal information.  This information will help you to make some decisions about what kinds of online behavior is appropriate for social networking sites. You will use this information to help you create your own social media (network) guidelines in an upcoming Quest.

Key Vocabulary:

Social network: an online community of people who use a website or app to communicate with each other by sharing comments, images, videos, resources, etc. Common examples include Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.

Online behavior: the way a person acts online

Check with your teacher to see if you need to create an account for this PBS learning activity, to save and submit your answers. A "Life Online" template document is available in Step 2 if needed.

Steps:

1. To get started click here to go directly to the activity. If your teacher has created an account, he/she will give you login directions.

2. Read or view the videos on the nine pages which open in a separate window. Take notes and save them on each page (or use the Life Online template doc. provided) as you proceed through the life online lessons.

Completing this Quest

If you have an account in PBS Learning Media you can click on REVIEW YOUR WORK when finished with the ninth page and reflect on what you just learned. You can copy and paste out of PBS Learning Media as needed into your template document. Save the template document or screenshot to your File Space and share it with your teacher.
